David Charles Ravanelli

July 14, 1941 — August 7, 2025

David Charles Ravanelli left his earthly home on August 7, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

David or “Mr. Rav” as his students called him, was born in Trinidad, CO, on July 14, 1941, to Charles and Blanche Ravanelli, graduated from Trinidad High School Class of 1959, and graduated from Trinidad State Junior College. Thereafter, he pursued and received several advanced degrees at Adams State University, Alamosa, University of Colorado, Boulder, Western Colorado University, Gunnison, and Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, CA. He was a life-long teacher.

Dave is survived by his son, Daniel Alexander Ravanelli, his wife of 35 years, Claudia, and two granddaughters, together with Claudia’s extended family. His mother and father as well as his stepdaughter, Deborah, precede him in death. He is survived by his beloved puppy, Itzy, who misses him terribly.

Mr. Rav was an educator and counsellor in School District 70, Pueblo for 32 years, serving at Pleasant View Middle School and Pueblo County High School. He loved fishing and boating and spent more than 50 years of summers primarily at Blue Mesa Reservoir (looking for that big one that “got away”). A trip deep sea fishing as often as possible off Cabo San Lucas would always be welcomed. He taught hunter safety education for over 20 years as well. He had a big heart and a great sense of humor.

Dave was so proud of his students, several of whom became successful professional artists and entrepreneurs.

As a fine artist, sculptor, jeweler, and potter, he created many beautiful art pieces. After his retirement, he moved to Santa Fe, NM, and designed and built a large double adobe traditional Pueblo Style home there. Dave and Claudia enjoyed and collected art and enjoyed the history and culture of the southwest.

After Claudia retired, they moved to the Western Slope and made their home in Grand Junction where they lived until his passing.

At his request, no formal services will be held at this time. Cremation has occurred.

The family extends their eternal gratitude to Dr. Daniel Sullivan, Dr. Jonathan Belk, and the medical team at St. Mary’s Hospital. HopeWest Hospice was such a source of peace and comfort these last few months, and special thanks goes to Nurse Randi, Emily, and Trish for their incredible care and devotion.

Memorial contributions would be welcome to HopeWest Hospice, 3090 North 12th St., Grand Junction, CO 81506.
