Clarice Ann
Moore
September 28, 1938 – April 8, 2026
Clarice Ann (Werking) Moore
Clarice Ann Moore, 87, passed peacefully into eternity on April 8, 2026. To those who loved her, she was known as Ann, Mom, Auntie Ann and Grandma. Ann was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado on September 28, 1938, the first-born child to parents Scott and Bertha Werking. Except for her time at Colorado State College in Greeley, Ann lived her entire life on the Western Slope, living in Glenwood Springs, Gunnison, and Grand Junction. Her teaching career began in Glenwood Springs and Basalt, where she caught the eye of a young phone company lineman working near the school. She spent many years in School District 51, ultimately teaching at Lincoln Orchard Mesa Elementary and Orchard Mesa Middle School. She successfully navigated the challenge of providing for her family and was actively involved in her kids’ varied interests in music, church, sports, scouts, and education – often taking on leadership and volunteer roles in different organizations. She was an avid reader, particularly interested in mysteries; and in the history of the Roaring Fork Valley, where her family has extensive ties. She loved to travel, visiting England, France, Central America, Turkey, Romania, Alaska, Hawaii, and many places in the continental U.S. She enjoyed experiencing other cultures, and her trips allowed time for searching family history, good food, and great wine. She often opened her home as temporary lodging for family members who spent time in Grand Junction. Over her life she amassed a substantial collection of Hull pottery and owl art; and many, many books. She treasured time with long time neighbors Pat, Alice, Gary, Irene, and Max; and beloved Friend Cathy. She is preceded in death by her husband Willard Moore; parents, Paul Scott and Bertha Werking; her sisters Paula Harder and Frankie Werking; brothers William and Scott Werking; sister-in-law Norna Martin; brothers-in-law James Harder, Wendell Moore and Gordon Moore; nieces Gina and Billie Sue Strong; nephew Lake Werking; grand-nephew Matthew Richardson; and granddaughter Kaitlyn Miller. She is survived by her children Marianne Moore of Grand Junction; John (Alex) Moore of Santa Rosa, CA; and Kathryn (George) Miller of Grand Junction; grandson James Moore of Santa Rosa, CA; sisters, Cookie Mlinar (John) of Colorado City, and Sue Strong of Paonia; sisters-in-law Stormie Werking of Colorado Springs; Sally Moore of Grand Junction; Jane Moore of Wheatland, WY; and brothers-in-law Clifford Moore and Larry Martin of Grand Junction; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial and interment will be scheduled for a later date. Despite her aversion to being the center of attention, she will be long celebrated.
