Charles Gale Johnson, age 84, passed away at his home in Clifton, Colorado surrounded by his loved ones on Dec. 15, 2023.

Chuck, as he was affectionally called, was born on Sept. 28, 1939 in Wardell, Missouri to David James Johnson and Mary Fanny Storey. The family later moved to Colorado where Chuck followed his father’s footsteps in working for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. He worked as a section lineman for 42 years, the last 25 years spent enjoying his retirement.

He served for 3 and a half years in the United States Marine Corp during the conflict in Vietnam. The following year he returned to Colorado and married Judy Marie Miller on June 3, 1967 and they later proceeded to raise 5 children in Radium, Colorado: Michael, Steve, Michelle, Sam (deceased), and Huck Johnson. Sadly, Judy passed away on August 16, 1980 and was laid to rest at the Hoyt Cemetery near Radium.

Chuck was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time out of doors. He was an extremely hard worker and wanted to be involved in every project. Even attempting to climb a ladder to his roof a month before his death, not wanting to miss out on the roofing project!

He enjoyed watching old Western movies in his spare time and reading Westerns. He seemed to be a Cowboy at heart, and was even cremated with his favorite pair of worn out cowboy boots. He also volunteered at the Alcoholics Anonymous helping others on their path to sobriety.

Chuck is survived by an older brother, Jim Johnson, three sons, one daughter, 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held on January 19, 2024 at 1:00 in the afternoon at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2830 Riverside Parkway in Grand Junction. Following this will be a small reception. Services have been entrusted to Browns Cremation and Funeral Services, and on Dec. 19, 2023 he was cremated according to his wishes.
