Chad O’Neil Baker, age 58, passed away on September 6, 2025, following a sudden illness. Born on June 8, 1967, in Grand Junction, Colorado, he was the son of the late Bill Baker and Mary Baker.
Chad built a successful career as a master carpenter. He took great pride in his work and loved helping people. Over the years, he worked for several companies across Colorado, California, and Texas, but for the majority of his career, he was self-employed. He specialized in remodeling projects and also built homes and log cabins from the ground up. A perfectionist, he valued doing things the right way. He especially enjoyed experiencing the final reveals with clients and ensuring they were well cared for.
Chad carried these values into his personal life as well. He enjoyed helping others and was willing to extend a hand whenever he could. He loved being outdoors including hiking and “kicking rocks” as he called it, camping, fishing, and kayaking. He cherished trips to Lake Powell, where he would waterski, go tubing, and jump off cliffs into the water with his sons. In recent years, he developed a love for gardening. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends the most.
Chad was friendly, outgoing, and quite the jokester. He loved to have fun. Those who knew him can still hear his laughter and will always remember him calling everyone Cap, Chief or Lady as he had a “hard” time remembering names. He was always smiling, always laughing, and always making sure no one felt left out. Hardworking and devoted, he cared deeply for his family.
Chad was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas “Bill” Baker, grandparents, Dale and Westa Lewis. He is survived by his mother, Mary Baker; Richard “Butch” Haines (Celia); brother, Nick Baker (Julie); former spouse of 30 years, Robyn Baker; his children, William Baker, Alyssa Bueno (Justin), Zachary Baker, and Hannah Baker; his five beloved grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins to whom he remained very close.
There will be no services. Instead, the immediate family has chosen to honor Chad privately together.
Isaiah 41:10- Fear not, for I am with you: be not dismayed for I am your GOD: I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
This isn’t goodbye, this is “See you later Cap”
