Carol Stewart of Grand Junction passed into eternal glory on Wednesday, March 29. She was 73 years old. Her husband, daughter, son and grandchildren were by her side as she slipped out of their lives and into the waiting arms of her heavenly father whom she dearly loved and longed for.
Carol was born February 15, 1950, in Fort Collins to Ray and Naomi Versaw. After graduating from Air Academy High School in 1968, she attended college in Rangely, Colorado, where she graduated with an associate degree in dental hygiene. She retired from dental hygiene in 2015.
Following graduation, she moved to Colorado Springs where she met and married Gary Purdy on August 28, 1971. They were blessed with two children, Melissa and Aaron. Gary preceded Carol in death on July 11, 1980. Carol raised her children in Grand Junction and married Forrest Stewart there on March 4, 1993.
Carol loved God and her family. She spoiled her children and grandchildren with amazing love, abundant patience, impeccably sewn garments, treasured quilts and delicious meals.
Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, knitting, gardening, hiking, playing board games and cross-country skiing.
Carol is survived by her husband, Forrest; her brothers: Ron, Dan, Larry and Alan; her children: Melissa (Brad) Hoelting and Aaron (Angela) Purdy; and her grandchildren: Emma, Austin, Olivia, Drew, Landen, Carson, Evan, Elizabeth and Annaliese.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Academy Christian Church in Colorado Springs.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Quilts for Kids Grand Junction chapter or KJOL radio station.
