Betty Esther Houseman

March 9, 1938 — October 27, 2024

Betty Esther Houseman, 86, of Grand Junction, passed away on 10/27/24 following a 2 ½ year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Betty was born on 3/9/1938 in Silt, Colorado, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Esther Ukele. Betty was one of four children; Ed (deceased), Bob, and Bill (deceased). She was a twin with her brother Bob.

Betty graduated from Silt Union High School in 1956 and was married soon thereafter to Robert Eccher until they divorced in 1980. They had three children together, Greg (deceased), Rick (Jeanie), and Rhonda (Jeff). After the divorce, Betty met Jack Houseman and moved to Littleton, Colorado. They were happily married in 1983 up until Jack passed away in 2016.

Betty went to work soon after high school with Mountain Bell. She worked for the phone company, through various name changes, for 44 years before retiring in 2002 and moving to Grand Junction, Colorado to be closer to family.

Betty’s main hobby was cooking and cleaning. Anyone that visited her house would soon be immediately aware of this. Her house was spotless all the time and she always wanted to cook you a meal. She was a hard worker who always put everyone ahead of herself. You never saw her without makeup and dressed nicely. She was also quick to help a family member in need, whether it was money, clothes, or a helping hand. She was a big fan and supporter of her kids and grand kids with their activities. She attended countless dance recitals, basketball games and running events. She yelled and cheered the loudest and always said something positive no matter the outcome.

No services will be held but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later.

Please consider making a contribution in Betty’s name to the ALS Association: ALS.org.

This disease took two of her brother’s also (Ed, Bill), let’s help to cure this horrible disease.
