Barbara (Barb) Dee Talley, age 81, passed away at the HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction on August 23, 2023, following a brief illness.
Barb was born on August 9, 1942 on the portion of Glade Park in Grand County, Utah. She was the daughter of Casimir Gauthier and Thelma Brouse Gauthier. Barb was very proud of her Glade Park heritage, which began when her father, an immigrant from France, built a life as a sheep rancher on Glade Park. Some of her fondest memories were of being with her daddy at sheep camp. One of the things she was most proud of was attending school at the Coates Creek Schoolhouse, a one-room log schoolhouse built by her grandfather, Elwood Brouse.
In 1956, Barb married Roy Karp. They had sons Tim and Ted and a daughter Tammy. They later divorced. Barb married Fred Talley in 1971. They had two daughters together, Teressia and Becky.
Barb’s greatest joys in life were her family and friends. She took every opportunity possible to spend time with those that were important to her. She was known for helping people who needed a friend and making special efforts to reach out to people who were lonely.
Barb spent many years in retail management, for which she was well suited because she loved to meet people. She never met a stranger and made many friends at her jobs; peers and customers alike.
She loved any activity that allowed her to socialize. She especially enjoyed concerts and baseball games. She loved to find a good bargain. Christmas shopping was one of her passions, as was decorating for Christmas. She will be remembered for her quick wit, outgoing personality, and giving nature.
Barb is preceded in death by her mother and father and her stepfather, Denver Cheatham, and one niece. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Fred Talley; her children Tim (Donna) Karp, Ted (Desiré) Karp, Tammy (Bob) Payne, Teressia Talley, and Becky (Lee) Gribble; siblings; Diane (Gary) Richardson, Sandy Graves, Ron (Pam) Gauthier, Lynn (Brad) Grose; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
