Barbara Claire Baird, lovingly known as Barb, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, in Craig, Colorado, with the love of her life, Ralph, by her side. She was 98 years old.

Barb was born on March 28, 1928, in Miles City, Montana, to Marjory and Edwin Kahler. She lived a long life defined by grit, determination, independence, and an unmistakable zest for life.

Barb was married to George Grandbouche and was the proud mother of three sons, Jay, who preceded her in death, Scott, and Todd. Throughout her life, she was never afraid of hard work or new opportunities. She worked in the uranium industry, in Luzier beauty sales, and served as president of WAIMME. She was the first president to serve West of the Mississippi! She also lovingly tended her peach orchard, taking great pride in the work and care it required.

In January 2009, Barb married the love of her life, Ralph Baird. Together, they split their time between Craig and Grand Junction, Colorado, filling their years with travel, family, adventures, working on Ralph's land, tending the peach orchard, and the occasional game of three-card poker.

One of Barb's favorite pastimes was exploring the deserts of Colorado and Utah in search of Native American artifacts. She loved the adventure, the wide-open spaces, and the thrill of discovering a small piece of history. She also loved collecting crystal, jewelry, antiques, and finding and collecting opium bottles from when the railroad was built. Her curiosity and adventurous spirit stayed with her throughout her life.

Barb also loved bringing people together. She was a wonderful hostess and especially enjoyed hosting her beloved Christmas Eve parties at her home in Grand Junction. Family and friends gathered to celebrate, laugh, eat, and make memories—just the way Barb liked it.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two of her brothers, Jim and Bill, and her son, Jay. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ralph; brother, Bob; her sons, Scott and Todd, her grandsons, her step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many family members and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Barb lived life fully and on her own terms. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for the strength she showed, the adventures she pursued, the home she opened to others, and the love she shared so generously. 

Her life was a beautiful reminder to stay curious, work hard, love fiercely, gather often, and never pass up an adventure
