Avon Henry Pfund

November 30, 1937 – September 15, 2026

Avon Henry Pfund, age 88, passed away on September 15, 2026. Born on November 30, 1937, in Waldport, Oregon, he was the son of the late Henry Pfund and Agnes Maude Pfund.

Avon graduated from Ambassador College in Pasadena, California, where he excelled in middle-distance running and other sports. His talent, dedication, and love of athletics led him to a career in coaching at Ambassador’s sister college in Big Sandy, Texas.

Running remained one of Avon’s lifelong passions. He continued running and competing in marathons well into his late 40s, reflecting the determination and endurance that were such important parts of his life.

Avon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence Vera Pfund, who passed away on July 19, 2018.

He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Maureen Turner; his son, Victor Henry Pfund, and Victor’s wife, Alicia Gay Riley-Pfund; and his granddaughter, Gabrielle Nicole Pfund. He is also survived by his brother, Kemmer Pfund, and his sisters, Joanne Miller and Patty Stein.

Avon was a member of the Living Church of God in Anderson, South Carolina, and his faith was an important part of his life.

Avon will be remembered for his lifelong love of running and athletics, his dedication to coaching, his faith, and his devotion to his family. The influence he had on those he coached and the memories he created with family and friends will remain an enduring part of his legacy.

His family will remember the life he lived, the example he set, and the many years they were blessed to share with him.
