Obituary

Alan James Cappo passed away peacefully on September 8th surrounded by his family after a three-year battle with prostate cancer. Al was born on June 12, 1943 in Chisholm, MN to Mike and Mary Cappo. He attended junior college for 2 years in Hibbing before transferring to University of MN, joined the engineering fraternity and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, he went to work at Univac where he met Cheri, his wife of 56 years. He worked in engineering for 15 years in Minnesota. During that time he married Cheri, and they spent many years traveling to Colorado for ski trips. They eventually decided to move to Colorado where Al started a construction company in Glenwood Springs, and later bought a custom door company, which he eventually renamed Western Millwork. He owned Western Millwork for close to 40 years, retiring in February 2024. Al and Cheri had two daughters, Gina and Brenda. In 2018, Al and Cheri moved to Grand Junction, CO.

Al was incredibly active, enjoying downhill skiing, running and exercising, hunting, playing tennis, volleyball, boating and water skiing at Lake Powell and making wine. He found a true calling coaching volleyball for his daughters, helping found the first club volleyball program in Glenwood Springs. In recent years, he loved spending time being active with his grandchildren, throwing baseballs, playing tennis and volleyball or any activity they wanted to do. He spent much of his time recently cheering on all of his grandchildren at their sporting events and activities.

He is survived by his wife, Cheri, two daughters Gina (Jason) Neuman, Brenda (Andrew) Brock, his 3 grandchildren, Evan Neuman, Hailey Brock and Spencer Brock and his sister Marge Cappo.

A funeral mass and reception will be held on Wednesday September 23rd at 11:00am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary church in Grand Junction.
